Chapter Four: Waking Up

Groggily Miss Weaboo wakes up and looks around, everything seemed to have a heavy haze over it but she could make out enough to know that she was laying on the couch in the living room, “Guess I did not make it to bed last night” she thinks. She starts to rub her eyes in an attempt to clear hear vision, but to no avail. She pulls the blanket off her and swings herself into a sitting position. This motion made the whole world spin and her vision to blurred even more, “A hangover, I can still get those..” her thoughts trail off as she sees the empty bottles on the coffee table “guess I overdid it last night”. Staring at the empty bottles she just curses herself, she knows she has a problem and needs to quit, “this is the last night” she vows to herself for the hundredth time.

Her self loathing was interrupted by a sound from the kitchen “Drip, Drip, Drip”

“What is broken now!” she moans. Standing up, she wraps her blanket tightly around and with eyes still cloudy she stumbles her way to the kitchen. Each step she takes she hears another drip, as if it was counting her steps.

“Drip, Drip, Drip” she makes her way across the living room. “Drip, Drip, Drip” she gets to the doorway of the kitchen and looks insides and what she sees shocks her. Sitting at the table was Otaku, “He’s already awake!”, her eyes dart to the wall clock to check the time “No way, he is never awake before noon!” Stunned, she just stares.

Her vision was still foggy, so she had trouble making out his face, but she was able to take in the rest of her surroundings. In front of him, opened on the table, was one of his novels and he had a cup of coffee in his hands.

Otaku looks up, finally noticing that his mom was there, “Morning Mom” he says in a pleasant tone, “I made coffee if you want some” nodding towards the coffee pot.

“Drip, Drip, Drip” the dripping sound was still there, but Miss Weaboo does not notice, all her attention is on her son and his strange behavior.

“He made coffee too!” this was too much for Miss Weeaboo, she needed to sit down. Stumbling over to the kitchen table she pulls out a chair and plops down in it and stares blankly at her son as she rubs her eyes again in another futile attempt to clear her vision.

“Drip, Drip, Drip”

Seeing her struggle Otaku giggles, “Guess yore having a rough morning, here let me get you a cup.” Setting his own cup down, he gets up and walks over to the coffee pot and starts pouring her a cup.

Miss Weaboo subconsciously realizes the dripping sound stopped as her son got up, but she was still in too much shock from his behavior to acknowledge it. Normally he would be demanding for breakfast and complaining about my drinking. “You ok Otaku? I’ve never seen you up this early before.” she asks shakenly.

Finishing filling the cup Otaku heads back to the table. “Of course mom, I’m just excited about the date and couldn’t sleep” he sets the cup down in front of Miss Weaboo and takes his seat “And I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you setting that up”.

Otaku picks up his cup and the dripping sounds resumes.

“Drip, Drip, Drip”

Miss Weeaboo is taken aback by this, she has never seen Otaku act so grateful before. Tears starts to fill her eyes. As she brings the cup up to her lips she thinks “My idea is working, setting him up with Haruna is making him grow up”, she takes a sip of the coffee and notices an odd taste, but it seems to be helping clear her vision so she takes another swig. The odd taste was there again, only way to describe it would be metallic.

“Drip, Drip, Drip”

“How’s the coffee mom, taste good?” Otaku asks

Pulling the cup away from her lips, her vision completely back to normal, she looks down and see a dark red liquid in the cup. Wondering what it was she looks up at Otaku and was about to ask what was in it, but she lost her voice upon gazing at his face. Where his eyes should be were now empty sockets. Blood was slowly oozing out of the empty holes, running down his face and slowly dripping off into the coffee cup he was holding.

“Drip, Drip, Drip”

“Well, how’s the coffee mom?”

Horrified she looks back down at the cup recognizing the dark liquid for what it was and as she staring into the cup, a white ball raises to the surface, it rolls over in the liquid and she finds herself staring directly into one of Otaku’s eyes.

“I hope you like it mom, I really put myself into making it”

Miss Weeaboo drops the cup and screams and then sits up with a start. Breathing heavily, still shaken up by what just saw, she starts to look at her surroundings and slowly recognizes the living room “It was just a dream” she mutters to herself, hand on her chest as she tries to get her breathing under control. “Just a horrible, horrible dream”.

She reaches over to the end table, grabs her pills and takes one. Staring at the bottle she start wondering “With these dreams coming more frequently, maybe I need to up the dosage again, ” and with that mindset she pops another pill in her mouth and swallows.

She relaxes on the couch and waits for the pills’ effect to kick in, once they do she decides to get up and start her day. Wrapping the couch blanket around her, she gets up and makes her way to the kitchen. And stops in the doorway, frozen in terror, for at the table sat Otaku, reading one of his novels.
